We Are Growing – Exciting News for You!

Dear Clients,

I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates about The Massage Garage and how we’re growing to serve you better!

After much reflection, I have decided to step away from the chiropractic doctorate program to focus on what matters most—my private practice, and providing you with the personalized care you have come to expect. With your valuable feedback on scheduling in mind, this shift will allow me to dedicate more time to growing The Massage Garage and giving you the attention you deserve.

In addition to this, I’m excited to announce that my talented colleague, Carrie Menefee, ANMT, will be joining us to offer therapy sessions at The Massage Garage. Carrie and I have worked closely for years, including during our advanced neuromuscular therapy training, and I can personally vouch for her expertise and skill. Carrie is not only a skilled therapist, but also a teacher of the very techniques we practice here, and I always turn to her for a “go-to” tune-up. I know she will bring the same care and precision you’ve come to expect from me.

Carrie will be in the office for one week each month, starting in January, so I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to experience her work firsthand.

Meanwhile, I’ll be back in the office more regularly, ready to offer the quality care and attention you’ve trusted for years. To schedule with either Carrie or myself, please visit our booking site.

Thank you for your continued support and trust in The Massage Garage as we grow and evolve to better meet your needs. I look forward to continuing to support your health and wellness in the year ahead.

With renewed focus, Gary Mendelson The Massage Garage

Think of Reiki as giving your body the ultimate tune-up, just like you would for your car. Think of Reiki as giving your body the ultimate tune-up, just like you would for your car. Just as you need regular oil changes, tire rotations, and check-ups to keep your engine running smoothly, Reiki helps keep your body's energy flowing freely and efficiently. It promotes relaxation and stress relief, much like how a good tune-up can prevent your engine from overheating or stalling.

Reiki helps balance your emotions, reduce anxiety, and clear mental fog—kind of like cleaning out the carburetor and spark plugs to ensure everything fires up without a hitch. It also supports physical healing and pain relief, much like addressing mechanical issues before they turn into bigger problems. By boosting your energy levels and improving your sleep, Reiki is like giving your body the fuel it needs to keep running strong while complementing other treatments to make sure your natural healing process is working at full capacity.

Just as a well-maintained car runs smoother and lasts longer, keeping your body in top shape with practices like Reiki ensures you're not just running—you’re cruising.

Meet Gary!

He is a massage therapist with a background unlike that of any other massage therapist. He was a professional theater artist for 25 years, as a dancer, singer and actor who performed in many major Broadway productions.

During his two years in CATS, his body sustained many injuries, and the production company always provided therapeutic massage to the cast as needed. He was awed and amazed that massage therapy could get him out of pain and back to work the same day. That’s when the seed was planted to heal others through touch. But it would still be a few more years until he rode that dream to reality. He continued his acting career, and between show stints, opened and built a successful chain of candle stores in New York City.

Having sold the candle stores, Gary moved to San Francisco and his ultimate dream of healing and helping people through touch came to fruition. Since 2009 he has been a California Certified and Licensed Advanced Neuromuscular Therapist and Health Educator, a “body mechanic”, as he calls himself.

Gary’s therapeutic massage techniques encompass the nervous system and muscular systems together. He isolates where the pain is coming from, and then uses several massage modalities to re-educate and realign the muscle fibers to go back to their normal position. He also retrains the nerve movements of the brain to actually get rid of the pain. Gary’s massage techniques are also a great complement to physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and other healing systems.

Carrie is thrilled to join The Massage Garage team, where she will leverage her extensive experience to create personalized, results-driven sessions that guide each client on their unique healing journey.

Carrie’s own path to healing began in the world of gymnastics, dance, and competitive swimming, but a shoulder injury prematurely ended her athletic career. Later, a serious car accident left her with persistent chronic pain. After years of physical therapy and pain medications that offered limited relief, she turned to a more holistic approach, exploring massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. This shift had a profound impact on her, igniting a passion for helping others heal and break free from chronic pain.

In 2009, Carrie graduated from the National Holistic Institute College of Massage, focusing her career on sports therapy. She had the opportunity to work alongside physical therapists and chiropractors throughout the Bay Area, honing her expertise and deepening her understanding of the body. Carrie also returned to her alma mater to teach the Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy program, passing on her knowledge to future massage therapists.

Now at The Massage Garage, Carrie is excited to bring her wealth of experience and holistic approach to each session, offering a tailored and effective path toward healing for every client.
